As the international celebration of Girls in ICT Day draws nearer, eBusiness Life Communication Limited, has said it is getting more endorsement from the private sector, in support of its programme to mark the Girls in ICT Day celebration in Nigeria.
THISDAY gathered that more private sector companies are signing up for a partnership with eBusiness Life, to encourage young girls in Nigeria to be technologically focused.
Recently, Vodacom Business, MainOne Cable Company and FPG Technologies joined the train of partners to make the event a success.
MTN Nigeria and Huawei Technologies had earlier indicated their interests to partner eBusiness Life on the campaign.
According to MainOne Cable Company, partnering eBusiness Life in this year’s event stems on the successes of previous partnerships between the two companies and the testimonials of the impact of the event on young girls. MainOne has been a partner in this campaign from the maiden edition in 2012.
Also Vodacom Business, in a statement, noted that the campaign to groom young girls and empower them technologically for the future is in line with the company’s vision and Corporate Social Responsible (CSR).
It further stated that partnering eBusiness Life has created an extended platform to realise this objective in Nigeria.
The event, which is billed to take place at the Oriental Hotels in Lagos on May 5, 2015, is part of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) campaign to sensitise young girls and encourage them to take up Information and Communication Technology (ICT) as a career.
While encouraging all its members to be part of the campaign, the ASSOCIATION of Telecommunications Companies of Nigeria (ATCON) commended the efforts of eBusiness Life in bringing this campaign to life in Nigeria.
In a letter signed by the ATCON’s Executive Secretary, Mr. Ajibola Olude, the ASSOCIATIONstated: “Please accept the commendation and endorsement of our Association on this laudable initiative.”
International Girls’ in ICT Day is an initiative launched through ITU Resolution 70 with the idea of creating a global environment that will empower and encourage girls and young women to consider careers in the ?eld of information and COMMUNICATIONS technology. The ITU declared the 4th Thursday of April every year as a day of encouragement to girls and young women to consider careers in ICT, while other stakeholders are reminded to support them in their choice.
Supporting the global Girls in ICT movement empowers girls and young women, giving them the confidence to pursue ICT studies and careers. Girls and young women have the potential not only to become ICT users, but also to become ICT creators.
As part of the 2015 event, which will be chaired by the MANAGING Director, Edo State Information Communications and Technology Agency (ICTA), Mrs. Olayemi Wonuola Keri, there will be blogging and quiz competitions among students from select secondary schools, roundtable discussions, interactive and motivational talk from renowned women ICT professionals, among others. Awards to deserving female ICT practitioners will also form part of the celebration.
The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), the Ministry of Communications Technology and the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) had been partners in this campaign.
