The Uzoma Dozie-led Diamond Bank, on Friday, May 27, 2016, sacked 200 workers – and this is authoritative.
The bank whose Profit Before Tax reduced from N7.94 billion recorded in 2015 to N6.04 billion in 2016 described the painful action as ‘a core strategic exercise in line with the bank’s growth objective and the will to continue the drive to optimize cost and enhance value for the shareholders …’
Explaining further, it said, ‘In the bank’s last appraisal, only 200 staff whose performance scorecards were adjudged to be lower than the minimum required to drive its strategic growth plan for the business year were relieved …’
Expectedly, gloom has enveloped the lives of all those affected – with many of them now seeking employment elsewhere.
Sources in the banking sector told Ebonymediagist that more heads will still roll in the the next few months as most banks are currently not finding things easy.
