Lagos Island Local Government Chairman Hon Prince Tijani Adetoyese Olusi has distributed 120 free General Certificate in Education(GCE) forms to indigent students.

At the ceremony held on Wednesday in the council secretariat, the council boss said this  at the Presentation of the forms was done in his office, yesterday. Prince Olusi said that it was the tradition of the Local government to assist both primary and secondary school pupils and students in their educational pursuit. He said the tradition was started by his predecessor, Hon. Wasiu Sanni Eshinlokun, who is now the Deputy speaker, Lagos State House of Assembly.

During the presentation, the Chairman said that the recipients of the forms were so lucky to be part of the students that would participate in this year GCE examination. Prince Olusi said “we are once like you. Opportunity comes in life but once. You are being given this opportunity to strive to achieve success in life with this GCE forms. When you pass this examination, you are going to be a pride of your parents, your schools in particular and the local government when you become graduates of tertiary institutions”.

 The chairman enjoined the students not to waste the opportunity given to them by the local government; adding that “you study, you strive to achieve success, and once you pass, this government is planning to give out JAMB forms in continuation of its educational assistance, when you are successful in this GCE exams, and we see evidences that you have strived, you would be given JAMB forms to further your education. It is our laid down tradition and we shall keep the flag flying”. The chairman told the benefiting students that the coaching to prepare them for the exams would start as soon as the registration was completed. One hundred and twenty GCE forms were given out this year.

He added: ’’I also want to assure you of the commitment of this administration towards improving the educational standard of our children.

‘’We are committed to helping our children and wards attain the highest academic pursuit in life and it is of essence to take drastic measure and steps now.’’

At the presentation were the Vice chairman, Alhaji Bashorun Wadood. Head of Administration, Mr. Hakeem Babatunde Disu, Leader of the Legislative house, Hon. Hakeem Ajose,Ladega Olorogun and political leaders within the local government area.
