TIJANI ADETOYEYE OLUSI CRUSHES HUNGER For over 600 aged elderly people in Lagos Island Local Government

Barely a week, it was a memorable day precisely, Thursday 23rd May 2019, when the leadership they say is service. A leader is the one who knows the way, shows the way and leads the way. This played out when the first of its kind was launched in Lagos Island Local Government under the auspices of the Local Government Executive Chairman, Hon., Tijan Adetoyese Olusi.

It was a social security programme aimed at supporting the welfare of the elders in the community. The maiden edition which had in attendance the entire management, staff, supervisors, legislative councilors, party leaders, politicians and the council of white cap chief present to graced the occasion.

 I was  kicked off with an opening prayer, followed by the welcome address by Chairman

Afterwards, he said that the event is geared towards addressing the aged challenges and welfare of the elders, those who have spent their youthful age to the soil and sweat for their development of this country deserve to enjoy their retirement. It is on this note that the local government had instituted local security programmed for aged ones he stated.
Speaking further he said, this programme is backed by a bye-law which makes it mandatory for any elected executive to implement.
And being a fore runner in grass root government in Nigeria, Lagos Island Local Government is doing everything to champion and promoting quality governance he added.
This he made it known  to the audience, about 600 elders which were picked across ten wards and other various interested groups which received a cash gift of #5000 cash, a big semovita, a bag of rice and also free medical check-up.

Proper counseling and referrals would be carried on where necessary at the General Hospital in Lagos Island, without paying anything. This will be exclusively for elders and children.
To also tackle the challenges of unemployment among the teeming youth amidst groaning economic.
Lagos State Trust Fund to partner with Lagos Island local government in making funds available for the start ups at reasonable interest.

Further stated that, they have equally engaged in discussion with a company willing to transfer and exchange technology capable of creating enormous amount of jobs. To this effect, the crime rates will reduce in the country, Olusi said.
The chairman also used the occasion to inform the gathering that security agencies are working tirelessly to keep our environment and our people safe, said our responsibility as citizens is to provide the police and other security agents adequate information that could lead to crime prevention and control while appealing to everyone to ensure to pay their taxes, rates, levels and dues promptly to enable government and both state and local sustain quality service delivery.
Apc Leaders in Lagos State used the occasion to addressed the audience that "is high time to start promoting our own values and norms" and while politics is gone beyond building of social amenities but also considered social needs and social welfarism of the people like what Hon Tijani Adetoyese Olusi the Executive Chairman of Lagos lsland local government is doing today.

There was cultural dancing interlude to entertain the guests and the programme was brought to a close through the distribution of food to 600 beneficiaries. The occasion was graced with the intendance of presence of notable people in Lagos lsland local Division were; Hon Oyinlomo Danmole, Alhaji A.G.O Sodiq, Hon, Rasheed Giwa, Hon Moshood Mayegun, Alhaji Oyemade, and the Council of white Cap Chief.
