On Wednesday, July 24, 2019, MTN Nigeria Communications Plc hosted its Abuja staff, prestige customers, and stakeholders to a Special Dinner party. Held at the Dunes Event Centre in Maitama, Abuja, the event was in celebration of MTNs successful listing on the Premium Board of the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) on May 16, 2019.

R&B singer, songwriter and producer and MTN ambassador, Praiz, was all class and good vibes at the Special Dinner. During his rendition of the national anthem, his performance was so impressive that it reignited in the guests present a sense of patriotism for a country that they love and feel a need to protect. Stunning was his rendition that the MTN Nigeria CEO, Ferdi Moolman, while giving his remark, was full of praises for Nigeria: “Listening to your national anthem, I just felt, what a beautiful song. Nigeria has many beautiful cultures; and wonderful entrepreneurs. It has been an honour for me working here.”

Call To Celebrate
Eighteen years ago was when the first call was made using a mobile phone in Nigeria, and guess who it was that made that call and on what network? Easy guess! There’s only one telecommunications giant in Nigeria worth its salt, MTN Nigeria Communications Plc, and the person that made the call on a MTN line was the company’s outgoing chairman, Dr. Pascal Dozie on May 16, 2001. Interestingly, exactly 18 years after and on the same date the call was made, the company listed on the Nigeria Stock Exchange (NSE) on May 16, 2019.

Draped in his royal attire as he walked into the dinner hall along with his retinue of aides and an entourage of praise singers, His Royal Majesty was the cynosure of everyone present. Leave it for the former Governor of Nigeria’s Central Bank, The Sarkin kano knows how to command respect.

Seyi Shay-renades
International music star, Seyi Shay, took to the stage and right away began entertaining the guests with some of her popular hit songs such as Murda, Gimme Love, and Yolo Yolo. Her performance was so catchy and engaging that when she got down the podium to serenade the audience they easily joined in her performance. Beaming with so much creativity, she turned the lyrics of the song Yolo Yolo to “Y’ello (x4), give happiness a chance”.
