LAGOS ISLAND LOCAL GOVERNMENT CELEBRATE Y2019 TREE PLANTING

...as Sanwo-Olu pledges to re-launch one house, one tree*_ Hon Tijani Adetoyese Olusi, the Executive Chairman Lagos Island Local Government has urged Lagos Island residents to save our planet from further destruction even during this raining season by developing the right attitude that would support government policy on environment. Mr Rasheed Giwa who represented the Governor at the Tree Planting Exercise made the call while delivering the keynote address by His Excellency, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, the Executive Governor of Lagos State, in commemoration of Year 2019 World Tree Planting Day tagged "Clean and Green is our Perfect Dream", an event which was held statewide was an environmental legacy aimed at making Tree Planting a vital component of our urban life. 

 Hon Supervisor for Environment LILG Hon Eletu Moshood Olawale pointed that Tree Planting is one of the strategies to combat the effect of climate change and global warming. This initiative and its sustenance over the past years, is a testimony to the foresight of previous administrations to ensure a healthy environment as well as protecting the general wellbeing of the citizenry. It is instructive that we pay adequate attention to climate change. It is also the world's most devastating threat to human survival. We can no longer pretend that we have a society at ease with itself, Olusi reiterated. To this end, let's resonate it across the city of Lagos that as we mark our birthdays, let's plant a tree; as we dedicate our children, let's plant a tree, as we celebrate our children's graduation, let's plant a tree; whatever memorable event that we do, let's endeavor to mark it with planting of trees. This little act of benevolence to nature can actually save our planet from further destruction, as the Governor shall be relaunching one house, one tree campaign soon. 

 Meanwhile, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Environment, Mr. Abiodun Bamgboye, ably represented by Mrs Suenu, a Director in the Ministry, in his address urged Lagosians to be alive to their responsibilities on this nagging issue of sanitation and greening. When we make it clean, let us also make it green and when we make green, we make it safer and healthier for generality of our people. This is our Perfect dream for a prosperous Lagos. 

 The Council Mayor, Hon. Tijani Adetoyese Olusi, marked the Tree Planting Exercise by Planting a tree alongside the representative of the Permanent Secretary of the Environment, Royal Fathers, Executive members, Legislative members and members of the management. Sanitarian Lukumon Kaffo , H. O. D. Environment gave lecture on Tree Planting techniques while Hon Eletu Moshood Olawale the Supervisor for Environment conducted the vote of thanks on behalf of the Lagos Island Local Government before they proceeded on Tree Planting Exercise. At the event were the Vice Chairman, Hon. Wadood Bashorun The Legislative members led by the Leader of the House, Hon Hakeem Olaiwola Ajose , Hon Ladega Olorogun the Secretary to the Local Government and other executive members. Also in attendanc are Ward Chairmen, party faithfuls, youth, among others.
