Hon. Lanre Afinni Of LSHA Lagos Island Constituency II, has empowered 350 widows, elderly and physically-challenged persons as part of activities to mark his 100 days in office.
The event, which held on Saturday at the Cathedral School, witnessed about 350 persons comprising of the elderly, widows and physically-challenged persons receiving food items.
It was a social security programme aimed at supporting the welfare of the elders in the community. The maiden edition which had in attendance the entire management, staff, supervisors, legislative councilors, party leaders, politicians and the council of white cap chief present to graced the occasion.
The Hon. Lanre Afinni noted that besides fulfilling his campaign promise, the endowment programme serves as cushion to reduce the burden of self-sustainership on the widows, elderly and the physically-challenged members of the constituency.
Afterwards, he said that the event is geared towards addressing the aged challenges and welfare of the elders, those who have spent their youthful age to the soil and sweat for their development of this country deserve to enjoy their retirement. It is on this note that the local government had instituted local security programmed for aged ones he stated.
The Hon. Lanre Afinni also used the occasion to inform the gathering that security agencies are working tirelessly to keep our environment and our people safe, said our responsibility as citizens is to provide the police and other security agents adequate information that could lead to crime prevention and control while appealing to everyone to ensure to pay their taxes, rates, levels and dues promptly to enable government and both state and local sustain quality service delivery.
The beneficiaries expressed gratitude to God and thanked Hon. Lanre Afinni for putting smiles on their faces. Mudashiru Musa, a resident of bamgbose area of lagos island, thanked the council boss for extending a helping hand to the downtrodden.
