All is set for the second edition of 2nd Street Theatre presented by Carnivals & Cultural Pride billed to hold in Lagos island this Sunday 27th of October 2019, at the Holy cross school, lagos island.
**The event is organised by Carnivals & Cultural Pride.(A Mega African Multicultural Display), Led by Mr Idris Iwalewa Coker a former Captain of the Olowogbowo/Fanti Carnival, with support from the Lagos State Council for Arts and Culture, The Convener said the event is quite timely in the light of the negative perception of Nigeria and its people internationally.
**"We want the world to know that Nigeria is not all about social vices, internet scam, banditry, and militancy. We want to create an honest impression about Nigeria and Nigerians, also to promote unity diversity, to educates and engage the youths for better Nigeria through multicultural cultural display,” this will also add to the tourist attractive phenomena in Lagos, the festival organiser, Idris Iwalewa Coker noted.
**The main event according to the organisers will showcase rich cultural display and values accross 36 states in NIGERIA with cultural exchange of neighboring countries in Africa.
This festival is purposely structured to promote indigenous heritage, Customs, traditions and attires and local dialects. This was created to engage the youths and most especially to revive the cultural interest of our people. We believe that the best way we could unite Nigeria is to promote our culture,” Coker said.
Highlights of the show include performances by the Yahweh Brass Band, Ofuobi Star Boys from Enugu and Arewa Cultural Troupe led by notable dancer and former member of the National Troupe of Nigeria,
**In his remarks, Coker called on the federal and state governments and Nigerians to support the Festival, stressing that it had a lot of benefits to Nigerians, especially in terms of image laundering abroad.
In his welcome address, Mr. Idris Coker explained that the major aim of the event is to showcase the uniqueness and rich cultural heritage of the various ethnic groups in the country.
“Culture plays a vital role in promoting national and global integration and harmony that are the key ingredients for international stability and peace. It binds people and races together irrespective of their differences.
Regardless of whatever formidable security apparatus we may have in place, the co-operation of the people is crucial to the success of it, and therefore I am seeking for your maximum cooperation and understanding during the period of the celebration. While thanking the generality of the people for maintaining relative peace last year, I want to plead that we should try and maintain peace and orderliness, adherence and obeisance to the instructions of security agencies would be in the interest of all.
“Another major facet of the festival is that it will provide vibrant institutional platforms for economic partnership and collaboration among the Nigeria investors and their Scandinavian counterparts with a view of promoting foreign direct investment (FDI) flow into Nigeria.
